School Feeding Program

Water must be carried and firewood must be procured in order to make lunches four times weekly for the younger students. Note the size of the kettles and containers needed for this huge undertaking.
Fr. Jude employs several local women to prepare school lunches. Careful to use every grain of rice, these faithful and resourceful ladies have been serving in this capacity since the beginning of the feeding program.
Middle schoolers at Cosabel have been able to enjoy three hot lunches weekly, thanks to the economical use of funds by Fr. Jude and Sister Pauline, principal.
Washing hands before lunch is an excellent way to reinforce sound hygiene habits both at school and at home. Here older students assist the younger ones.

Members of the Haiti Sister Parish Ministry of St Isaac Jogues visit Chenot regularly to assess the success of the feeding program and our sister parish relationship. Most gratifying was observing the feeding program so generously supported by St. Isaac Jogues parishioners and friends. The children are looking happier and healthier than on previous visits. Even when the funding is provided to purchase the food and fuel, feeding 650 children and 300+ adolescents is no simple task. This series of photos offer a glimpse into the school setting and the feeding program in action at the three schools.
